The local planning authority had requested the client to supply a badger survey for the length of the proposed new haulage route, as part of pre-application planning advice. HalpinRobbins were instructed, by the client, to supply a badger survey within five days of being commissioned, with the survey to include historic records for the area and advice relating to badger presence, the location of the haulage route and any other identified potential ecological constraints.
In total four setts were found within the length of the proposed haulage route and 60m buffer area. This included a main sett, two annex setts and a subsidiary sett; the latter being apparently disused. All findings were mapped out and submitted to the client with associated advice.
To avoid disturbance of the Badger setts, and protect local Badgers during the construction works, the haulage route was moved 10m east at a single location and specific simple construction practices were agreed and implemented. The construction practices included erecting fencing to stop works, materials or staff entering certain areas and all deep excavations were covered overnight.
The planning application was successful and works progressed under a watching brief with no ecological complications.

"Nothing is too much trouble and the two way communication is second to none. I would not hesitate to recommend HalpinRobbins to anyone and we wouldn’t even contemplate going anywhere else."
