The mitigation strategy required the provision of method statements for the protection of Great crested newts, Slow-worms and nesting birds and details of a scheme for the retention and enhancement of freshwater and terrestrial habitats suitable for Great crested newts and Slow-worms on site.
As part of the mitigation strategy and the enhancement scheme the plant species and locations were required to enhance the aesthetic value of the site as well as encouraging a wide variety of invertebrates, amphibian, reptiles and birds to make use of the site all year round.
After undertaking a review of previous ecological works and visiting the site to undertake a walk over appraisal to assess habitat connectivity and character of the site in terms of ecology, industrial use and existing landscape and visual amenity HalpinRobbins produced two reports; landscape strategy and ecological mitigation plan
Taking account of the existing scrub habitat of the site, adjacent railway and Great crested newt and Slow-worm populations within adjacent properties the reports proposed low disturbance and low maintenance mitigation measures combined with a United Kingdom native and naturalised planting scheme to limit ecological disturbance, enhance the sites ecology and ensure that the site could be used practically and profitably by the client.
Both planning conditions were signed off by the local planning authority and the development continued without hold-up.

"Nothing is too much trouble and the two way communication is second to none. I would not hesitate to recommend HalpinRobbins to anyone and we wouldn’t even contemplate going anywhere else."
