HalpinRobbins was commissioned to undertake a Code for Sustainable Homes Assessment on 0.7 hectares of land outside Crowcombe, Somerset for the construction of five residential properties.
The initial site assessment was undertaken in accordance Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) Guidelines for Preliminary Ecological Appraisal focusing on plant communities, habitats and United Kingdom and European protected and invasive species.
Using the information gathered by this process and with consultation with the client, Falcon Rural Housing, the Code for Sustainable Homes assessment was undertaken and included the provision of advice on how to improve the potential achievable Code for Sustainable Homes score.
During construction works and before the homes were occupied, by residents, HalpinRobbins continued to visit the site and oversee the agree ecological provisions and enhancements. This supervisory work was to collect sufficient information to present to the Code for Sustainable Homes assessor as proof that agreed key and additional recommendations had been followed and implemented.
The project achieved its desired Code for Sustainable Homes assessment and was built without any ecological complication.
