What we are looking for:

  • Friendly, positive and sociable person.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • A full driving licence.
  • Experience in report writing, client liaison and project management.
  • Competent user of Microsoft Office.
  • Experience undertaking protected species surveys (especially bats).
  • Experience as an Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW).
  • Bat licence (Level 1 or higher).
  • Experience using QGIS and/or AutoCAD.
  • CIEEM membership, or eligibility for membership.

Desirable:

  • Experience analysing bat sound files.
  • A relevant degree in Ecology or a related discipline.
  • Previous experience within an ecological consultancy environment.
  • Additional protected species licences.

The Role

As an Assistant Ecologist, you will support our ecologists on a variety of projects, gaining hands-on experience while contributing to real-world outcomes for protected species and habitats.

You will:

  • Undertake ecological surveys for a range of protected species and habitats, including bats, reptiles and badgers.
  • Assist with report writing for Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA), including desk studies, data collation and basic analysis.
  • Liaise with clients and colleagues to help organise surveys and ensure smooth project delivery.
  • Support Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) roles on construction sites, helping protect wildlife during development.
  • Have opportunities to assist the Environmental Consultancy team, including Nutrient Balance Assessments and shadow Habitats Regulations Assessments.

This is a 37.5 hour per week role on a temporary contract (April–October), ideal for someone looking to build field experience and progress within ecological consultancy.
