Badger Surveys

Legal Compliance and Planning Support

The European badger Meles meles is a social creature living in family groups in underground structures called "setts"; both sett and badger are protected under the Protection of Badgers Act 1992 and the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 (as amended).

Our services include:

  • Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEA) – Assessing habitat suitability and presence
  • Field Surveys – Identifying signs such as setts, paths, latrines, and digging
  • Advanced Techniques – Including camera traps, sand pads, and bait marking studies
  • Mitigation & Licensing – Developing Natural England-compliant strategies, including artificial sett creation

Surveys can be conducted year-round, with optimal periods between February–April and September–November when vegetation is low and badgers are most active.

Let us help you meet your ecological obligations with confidence.
