Howells School Preliminary Ecological Appraisal

HalpinRobbins were commissioned to undertake an ecological survey of land at Howell's School, Llandaff, Wales to support a planning application for a new pavilion, changing rooms, all-weather pitch and tennis courts.

The initial site assessment was undertaken in accordance Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) Guidelines for Preliminary Ecological Appraisal focusing on plant communities, habitats and United Kingdom and European protected and invasive species. Due to the nature of the site and presence of children the survey was scheduled outside of term time.

The 3.2 acre site was dominated by a single distinct habitat type, amenity grassland, which had been intensively managed, showing signs of regularly mowing and markings for track and field athletics.

There were no ecological constraints to the development of the land and the project successfully received planning.
